Prime Healthcare planning $850K upgrade for hospital's cardiac monitoring telemetry system.
Landmark Medical Center announced today that it has received an echocardiography accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). The accreditation, in adult transthoracic and adult transesophageal echocardiography, is valid for three years, according to a release distributed by the hospital this week. An echocardiogram is a safe, non-invasive procedure to examine a heart and potentially diagnose conditions related to cardiovascular disease. A transthoracic echocardiogram entails a probe of a person’s thorax, or chest wall, from which images are taken. Transesophageal echocardiograms examine the heart through a patient’s esophagus – an alternative to the transthoracic echocardiogram. The Intersocietal Accreditation …

Landmark Medical Center has announced its cancer program was accredited for three years, with commendation, by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. The accreditation means Landmark’s cancer program complied with all the commission’s standards and Landmark was also commended, for several reasons, including: complying with American Cancer Society CAP protocols; offering three or more prevention or early detection programs; having cancer registry staff who are Certified Tumor Registrars and staff who attend national cancer-related educational activities; and implementing and documenting more than two improvements each year that directly affect cancer patient care. “The accreditation is a testament to the hard work and …

Attorney General's office has notified prospective buyer it has till March to respond.
Two months after Prime Healthcare asked for an extension on the application deadline to buy Landmark Medical Center, the Attorney General's office says they've left out critical details. Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office has sent a letter to Prime Healthcare's attorney and Landmark Medical Center's Special Master Jonathan Savage notifying them of the ommissions. The letter, penned by Deputy Attorney General Gerald Coyne and Michael Dexter, chief of Health Systems Development, states the most prominent omission is the failure to list the parent company, Prime Healthcare Services Inc., as a transacting party (see attached document). "The omission impacts responses to numerous questions in the application," the letter reads. …

Landmark's new buyer will be made public later today.
Steward Healthcare has officially walked from the deal to buy Landmark Medical Center, but the flagging hospital has a new suitor. "We recieved notification from Steward this afternoon that they were not moving forward," on their long-in-limbo deal to purchase Landmark Medical Center, said Amy Kempe, public information officer for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office. Landmark spokesman Bill Fischer, who mentioned Landmark was courting a new potential buyer for the financially troubled hospital said Landmark had signed an asset purchase agreement with a new healthcare organization. "That's good news," he said, "That's not a step that anyone would take lightly." Fisher would not name the company Landmark has signed its new deal with…

Savage: Delay of $5,585,024 license tax critical to keep hospital afloat in search for another purchaser.
Landmark Medical Center's Special Master Jonathan Savage has filed a Superior Court response to delay a required $5,585,024 license tax to keep the hospital operating while seeking a new buyer to take Steward Healthcare's place. Following the apparent logic in Savage's plea, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office, the regulator and frequent mediator of the deal to sell Landmark to Steward Healthcare, criticized the would-be buyer for its lack of commitment to rescue the failing hospital and pursuing the bottom line over the welfare of Landmark's patients. "While neither Steward nor the Special Master for Landmark have informed the Attorney General of their intentions, it appears, based on documents filed by the Special Master in …

Department grants request after BCBSRI agreed to tell physicians with admitting privileges only at Landmark that they wouldn't be penalized.
The RI Department of Health has granted Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island’s (BCBSRI) request to suspend the process to remove Landmark Hospital from its coverage network. The OK came with a caveat, though: First, Blue Cross had to agree to tell physicians with admitting privileges only at Landmark that they wouldn't be penalized. The company had notified physicians in July that it would require them to seek admitting privileges at another participating hospital. “HEALTH recognized the difficult position that Landmark physicians faced in this situation,” said Michael Fine, MD, director of the RI Department of Health. “We requested that Blue Cross notify physicians that they are not required to have admitting privileges at a Blue …

Blue Cross patients at hospital covered through Dec. 31, or 90 days after Steward Healthcare closes purchase of Landmark.
Blue Cross Blue Shield RI and Landmark Medical Center have reached an agreement extending coverage for BCBS patients at the hospital through Dec. 31. "Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (Blue Cross) is pleased to have reached an agreement with Landmark Medical Center (Landmark) that allows Landmark to re-join the Blue Cross participating hospital network while fairly reimbursing Landmark for the services they provide," read a statement from the insurer provided by Kim Reingold, director of public relations at the company. As part of the agreement, Landmark will drop its law suit against Blue Cross and has agreed to a payment schedule to come current on the monies owed to the insurer for employee health benefits coverage that Blue …

Protracted deal hinges upon on-again, off-again talks between provider and Blue Cross, Blue Shield of RI.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin has again extended the closing deadline for Steward Healthcare, intended buyer of Landmark Medical Center, this time to Sept. 30. In a letter dated Aug. 27, Deputy Attorney General Gerald J. Coyne informed Steward Healthcare the Attorney General was granting their request to extend the deadline to allow negotiations between the would-be rescuer of the hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI to continue. The two parties remain in stalemate over the reimbursement rates Blue Cross will cover for claims from Landmark Medical Center. "Part of the reason that a specific closing date was included as a condition of approval in this matter was a recognition of the fiscal challenges facing Landmark, and by …

This is a true discovery in cancer investigation. A clinical trial reported that they were been able to lower 3-year fatality in people who had metastatic cancer tumors by over 5 times. Nothing is identical to this final result in the entire cancer exploration. I repeat 5 times fewer people died in three years after they practiced one particular supplementary therapy. The treatment was based on …   more ›
