Mount St. Charles, Woonsocket High Students To Perform In Jazz Festival Thursday

Stadium Theatre Event will showcase 90 student musicians.

  Jazz band students from Mount Saint Charles Academy are tuning up their swing charts for the 17th Annual Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival at Stadium Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7pm. In addition to the MSC jazz band, the Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival will display the high-energy sounds of jazz bands from Blackstone-Millville Regional High School, North Smithfield High School, and Woonsocket High School.  Approximately 90 students will perform under the bright lights of the historic Stadium Theatre.  The Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival is a unique collaborative presentation by our local high schools’ music departments. On Saturday Nights, Chan's is "Capital of the World"

For blues and jazz lovers, the city club is a mecca.

It's another Saturday night at Chan's Fine Oriental Dining, and on stage the great Duke Robillard is choking anguished squeals from the strings of a Les Paul guitar. Customers are ignoring the chicken wings and the umbrella drinks they ordered before the music began filling up the room. How can anyone eat when he has them transfixed with that screaming, crying sound? "I'm gonna buy me a dog," Robillard snarls, "to take the place of you..." Bites Nearby: Vintage

A lunch to linger over, and a great value.

Vintage Restaurant in Market Square is fine dining American cuisine. The familiar dishes are served with creative flourishes to enhance them: lobster macaroni and cheese or a grilled filet mignon with a port wine glaze from their dinner menu; the poached pear pizza or the buttermilk chicken BLT from their lunch menu. Add to this an atmosphere designed to relax diners, with plenty of natural light and earth tones, and enthusiastic service, and Vintage is an ideal destination for a lunch or dinner to be lingered over. I visited Vintage during lunch on a Thursday afternoon, occupying a table for one in a wide-open dining room. My server, Nate, was friendly if unrefined and his casual confidence put me enough at ease to ask for recommendations…

Agree with Ann. A burger & a beer for around $12 at Box Seats is 10x better even if I'm sitting at the bar. An expensive place like Vintage restaurant doesn't work in a blue collar town like Woonsocket.   more ›
