Woonsocket Scouts Collect 5,000 lbs Of Food During Annual Collection

Scouting For Food Drive aids the hungry for 25th year.

  On Saturday, Nov. 10, members of of Troop 2 OLQM, Pack 2 OLQM, Pack 6 St. Joseph's, and Crew 13 of All Saints Parish collected 5,140 lbs of food for the RI Food Bank during the Boy Scouts' annual Scouting for Food Drive.  Thousands of Scouts from the Narragansett Council, canvassed the local region to collect food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and area food pantries.  As a result, more than 200,000 pounds of canned goods were donated from the community. Additional donations are still being collected at Rhode Island Walgreens locations around the state until Nov. 17.  “The Drive is a long-standing tradition for our Council,” said John Mosby, the Narragansett Council’s Scout Executive/CEO. “We are so proud of the hard work and …

Woonsocket Scouts To Collect Bags Saturday During Scouting For Food

Annual collection for hunger relief is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

  Don't let Hurricane Sandy and your Halloween haul distract you from putting together some food donations for those bags local Boy Scouts dropped off over the weekend. This Saturday, members of Troop 2 OLQM, Pack 2 OLQM, Pack 6 St. Joseph's, and Crew 13 of All Saints Parish will be collecting the bags they dropped off for the 25th Annual Scouting for Food Drive. The drive is a long-standing tradition for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America and the largest food drive in New England. For 25 years, the Boy Scouts’ Scouting for Food campaign has inspired the community to give to those in need. More than 200 Boy Scout Packs and Troops participate in the annual drive, reinforcing the motto for Scouts to do a “Good Turn” daily.  The …

Help Woonsocket Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger May 12

The national letter carriers’ food drive is coming up next Saturday.

  Woonsocket letter carrier Don Gaulin of North Smithfield will be on the look out for pickups as well when he delivers the mail May 12 — food donations. Letter carriers in RI and across the nation will join forces in the country’s largest single-day food drive that Saturday, “Stamp Out Hunger,” a cooperative effort of the U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Gaulin has been a volunteer coordinator for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive for the last 17 years. All food collected in the Ocean State will be donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The donations will help to feed more than 60,000 people who depend on the Food Bank’s statewide network of emergency food programs to meet their basic …
