WPRI reports Ashley Paquette, 26, of Woonsocket, has been charged by North Smithfield police with ebezzling $9,514.25 from the North Smithfield Walmart. Five other Woonsocket residents, four women and one man, have also been charged in connection with the theft, according to turnto10.com: Michaela Colon, Maria Alpen, Jessica Champagne, Brandi Trudel and Edward Devalle were charged with conspiracy.

The city's insurance company has compensated Woonsocket for $200,000 of $389,000 the city discovered missing last year, Mayor Leo Fontaine told the City Council Monday. On Oct. 12, 2011, RI State Police arrested retired Municipal Court clerk Rachel Arruda on embezzlement charges. She was accused of stealing approximately $389,000 between 2004 and 2010. Arruda retired in August 2010. On Sept. 8 Woonsocket Police arrested City Treasury Clerk Michelle Giguere, charging her with Unlawful Appropriation (over $1,000) and Computer Access for Fraudulent Purposes. A Massachusetts man is facing criminal charges after he was allegedly filmed by surveillance cameras stealing hundreds of pounds of nickel from his employer, a Woonsocket company that sells precious metals in powdered form. Myron Merrill, 45, of 2A Kelly Road, Mendon, MA., is charged with embezzlement over $100, a felony, according to police records. The investigation began Thursday when Woonsocket police detectives went to the local office of Carpenter Powder Products, located at 500 Park East Drive, for a meeting with several company managers.
