NeighborWorks Named Champion In Action For Neighborhood Development

Citizens Bank, NBC 10 award PR support, $35,000 grant to non-profit.

  NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley has been named a Champion in Action by Citizens Bank and NBC 10 for their work in neighborhood development, an honor that comes with a $35,000 grant from the former and PR support from the latter.  The grant will be used to aid NeighborWorks' after-school programs, said Joe Garlick, the program's Executive Director. The programs run year-round and cost about $175,000 annually. The award, grant and public relations support were announced today at 1 p.m. at 120 North East St., the site of one of NeighborWorks' two community development facilities (the second is on Sayles Street). This one, Garlick said, provides free housing for the teachers of the program's after-school services on the second floor. …

City Planners, Non-Profit Groups Meet For Lunch

Brown-bag session spurs education effort on charitable groups, more cooperation.

  About 27 leaders of local non-profit groups met with city planners Wednesday in City Hall's second floor conference room to discuss working with the city more effectively. Besides introductions to Paulette Miller, Acting Director of Planning & Development and Jennifer Siciliano, City Planner/Deputy Director of Community Planning, the group resolved to do a better job of educating the public about the value of thier services, and to cooperate with the city more effectively to aid community development efforts.  Leaders who attended included Jeanne Budnick of Blackstone Valley Independent Business Alliance, Rebekah Greenwald, executive director of RiverzEdge, Jill Pfitzenmayer of the Rhode Island Foundation, Jan Reitsma, executive director…
