Wrong turn lands motorist on frozen pond.
Sometimes drivers land in hot water, but a wrong turn on Cass Avenue put one motorist's morning commute on ice. Jetty Cherian, the owner of Cass Ave Food Mart, said he was alerted to a car on the ice at Cass Pond, across the street from his shop by customers at about 8 a.m. "The kids came in and they say, 'Jetty, did you see the car over there?'," Cherian said. Sitting on the ice on Cass Pond was a car. It hadn't broken through the ice, and the driver seemed OK. Cherian watched as police, two fire trucks, an ambulance and a tow truck filled up the parking lot at Cass Park. Fish in freshwaters without fishing license or trout conservation stamp Saturday, Sunday.
Grab your pole, some nightcrawlers, head to Cass Pond and don't worry about the paperwork this weekend - DEM reports Saturday and Sunday are free fishing days in RI. During those two days, all Rhode Islanders and visitors can fish in freshwaters without a fishing license or trout conservation stamp. The free fishing weekend does not apply to saltwater fishing or saltwater licenses. For the third year, DEM fish hatcheries are offering anglers the chance to catch a coveted golden rainbow trout. Lucky anglers who catch a golden trout during the free fishing weekend and throughout the season will be given a free golden trout pin. When Cass Park was re-done I suggested to the Architechs G & L that the abutments along Cass Ave. should be metal heavy duty guardrail near the pond area to prevent this problem. They agreed but didn't follow through. Lucky the pond was frozen !I Guess I was right.   more ›
