Woonsocket Man to Serve 20 Years for Jan. 25 Stabbing

Victim praised for her courage after Louis Callei, 24, pled guilty in Superior Court today.

A city man arrested by Woonsocket Police Jan. 25 on charges of stabbing a woman multiple times pled guilty to the attack in Superior Court today, receiving 20 years to serve. Louis Callei, 24, of 242 Burnside Ave., pled guilty before Superior Court Justice Netti C. Vogel to assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling with intent to murder, according to a release from the office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. Vogel sentenced Callei to 40 years, with 20 to serve and the remainder suspended with probation. According to the release, Callei, dressed in black clothes, a bandana covering his face and knife in hand, forced entry into the woman’s apartment that afternoon during a robbery gone wrong. Update: City Woman Stabbed, Suspect Chased Into River

The victim is in fair condition and suspect is in custody.

A Woonsocket woman was stabbed multiple times last night on Social Street and is listed in fair condition this afternoon. The suspect, 24 year-old Louis Callei of 242 Burnside Ave. was taken into custody. Woonsocket Police were called out around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to 837 Social St., an apartment building right beside Krakow Deli Bakery and Smokehouse. A witness told police the suspect head ran behind the building, towards Peters River. Four police officers chased the suspect and three were forced to jump into the river to catch him. Officers Kenneth Marcotte, Patrick McGourty, and Anthony Conetta were taken to the hospital and treated for exposure before being released.
