Governor Chafee asked bells be rung 26 times this morning in honor of the victims of Sandy Hook, the Diocese asks they ring 28 times, to include the mother and the shooter in our prayers
To honor the memory of the 26 victims who lost their lives in the Newtown, CT shootings, Governor Lincoln Chafee has called for a statewide moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. this morning and has asked that buildings, which have the ability, ring bells 26 times during that moment in honor the victims. The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island recommends churches ring the bells 28 times, which would include a ring for both the shooter and his mother. "We think praying for all souls best reflects Christ’s message of forgiveness and love for all, and that we should especially pray for those souls who may need our prayers the most," said Ruth Meteer, Communications Director for the Diocese. Teacher reported woman made "shooting" gesture at her through a window.
A local woman is due in Sixth District Court today at 2 p.m. to answer a disorderly conduct charge after she allegedly made threatening "shooting" gestures with her hands at a Pothier Elementary teacher though a window. According to a release sent out this afternoon by Woonsocket Police Information Officer Det. Jamie Paone, at about 8:10 a.m., four officers responded to the school at 420 Robinson St. for a report of a woman making threatening gestures at a teacher. Paone said police have extra patrols assigned to the city's schools following the recent school shooting in Newtown, CT. Westport and Fairfield fire officials say the single-car accident's driver and one passenger survived the pre-dawn crash.
Westport and Fairfield fire officials say two people were pronounced dead on the scene of a pre-dawn accident Sunday after a single vehicle shot over a guardrail on Interstate 95 northbound between exits 18 and 19. According to the Hartford Courant's story on the crash, the pair are Terrance Bernard, 46, and Savannah Wakely, 25, both of Woonsocket. The link also has a video from the scene of the accident.
