Connecting for Children and Families Hosts Annual Dinner

Director of the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS) was keynote speaker for the event.

  Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) held its 18thAnniversary Annual Dinner on Wednesday, May 1 at Savini’s Restaurant in Woonsocket.  Sandra M. Powell, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS), was the Keynote Speaker. In 2011 Governor Lincoln Chafee appointed Ms. Powell to lead DHS, which administers the state’s major economic support programs, including the supplemental nutrition assistance program (snap), low income child care, child support services, medical assistance, general public assistance, and temporary aid to needy families (called RI Works).  Serving more than 400,000 Rhode Islanders, the department also provides vocational rehabilitation services to disabled Rhode Islanders, services for …

CCF Begins Recruiting For Culinary Arts Program

Twelve-week course to prepare individuals for food service jobs.

  Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) is currently recruiting this Spring for adults interested in pursuing employment in the food services industry. The training program consists of: twelve weeks of classroom instruction, Monday-Friday, with anticipated start dates in May; exploration of entry level positions in the food services job sector; opportunities to gain valuable “hands on” experience in internships with our employer partners; and job readiness, Serv-Safe certification,  placement assistance, and career counseling. I get it. I also get very frustrated with the city. We are not the only city going thru financial problems. As far as I am concerned anybody who is willing to go thru this program to help change themselves is great. Change starts within ourselves first. We need different programs to try out. Woonsocket's CCF Awarded $168K To Train, Place 60 Culinary Arts Workers

Governor's Workforce Board awards grant to groom employees for local jobs.

  Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) has received a $168,366 Innovative Partnership grant from the Governor’s Workforce Board to train 60 people in their Culinary Arts Program. The grant will help promote and support partnerships between employers and training and education providers so job seekers have the skills, training and support they need to meet employer demand. “We are thrilled to receive an Innovative Partnership award. PHOTOS: CCF Hosts Second Lights On Afterschool Event

Celebration notes after-school programs are struggling nationwide.

  Connecting for Children and Families (CCF) held its Second Annual Lights On Afterschool Event on Nov. 8 as part of a national program run by The Afterschool Alliance, the nation’s leading voice dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of afterschool programs. Uncertain Times, a recently released survey of afterschool programs, revealed that programs across the country are struggling to keep their doors open.  “Even as we gather to celebrate all that afterschool programs do to keep students safe, inspire them to learn and help working families, we are mindful that not only are there not enough programs, but also that many existing programs are in jeopardy,” said Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Jodi Grant. Kindergarten Orientation Gets Reboot At Pothier

“Passport to Kindergarten” hosted tonight, 5:30 p.m. at Pothier Elementary School.

Tired of the same old kindergarten orientation year after year? Connecting for Children & Families (CCF) has the answer with “Passport to Kindergarten” tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Pothier Elementary School. The district-wide effort is spearheaded by Connecting for Children & Families (CCF) Early Reading First Project and takes the place of Woonsocket’s traditional kindergarten orientation. The evening begins with registration and light refreshments. At 6:30 p.m., with passport in hand, children and families will “travel” to stations where they will participate in activities based on the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards.
