Woonsocket Scouts Collect 5,000 lbs Of Food During Annual Collection

Scouting For Food Drive aids the hungry for 25th year.

  On Saturday, Nov. 10, members of of Troop 2 OLQM, Pack 2 OLQM, Pack 6 St. Joseph's, and Crew 13 of All Saints Parish collected 5,140 lbs of food for the RI Food Bank during the Boy Scouts' annual Scouting for Food Drive.  Thousands of Scouts from the Narragansett Council, canvassed the local region to collect food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and area food pantries.  As a result, more than 200,000 pounds of canned goods were donated from the community. Additional donations are still being collected at Rhode Island Walgreens locations around the state until Nov. 17.  “The Drive is a long-standing tradition for our Council,” said John Mosby, the Narragansett Council’s Scout Executive/CEO. “We are so proud of the hard work and …

Woonsocket Scouts To Collect Bags Saturday During Scouting For Food

Annual collection for hunger relief is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

  Don't let Hurricane Sandy and your Halloween haul distract you from putting together some food donations for those bags local Boy Scouts dropped off over the weekend. This Saturday, members of Troop 2 OLQM, Pack 2 OLQM, Pack 6 St. Joseph's, and Crew 13 of All Saints Parish will be collecting the bags they dropped off for the 25th Annual Scouting for Food Drive. The drive is a long-standing tradition for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America and the largest food drive in New England. For 25 years, the Boy Scouts’ Scouting for Food campaign has inspired the community to give to those in need. More than 200 Boy Scout Packs and Troops participate in the annual drive, reinforcing the motto for Scouts to do a “Good Turn” daily.  The …

Woonsocket Scouts Distributing Bags For Scouting For Food Drive Saturday

Annual collection for hunger relief is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

  On Saturday, members of Troop 2 OLQM, Pack 2 OLQM, Pack 6 St. Joseph's, and Crew 13 of All Saints Parish will be hitting the streets to distribute bags for the 25th Annual Scouting for Food Drive. The drive is a long-standing tradition for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America and the largest food drive in New England. During the upcoming weeks, thousands of Boy Scouts will be on the move throughout the region collecting non-perishable food items for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Girl Scouts Dance Their Way To Badges at Lyrics in Motion

Woonsocket's newest dance studio helped a local Girl Scout troop earn badges in dance.

On Tuesday evening, Lyrics in Motion Dance Studio hosted a Girl Scout troop dancing for badges. Lyrics in Motion’s Move It program gave the girls a one-hour immersion in dance that qualified the participants for merit badges. The troop, a combination of Daisies and Brownies ages four to seven, is guided by troop leader Stacey Hardy, who learned of Lyrics in Motion from an article on the Woonsocket Patch about the city’s newest dance studio. The studio’s co-owners, Hilarie Viens and Tanya Hay, offered the Move It program for Hardy’s troop free of charge. The full ranks of Hardy’s troop arrived Tuesday evening: more then 20 girls flooding a dance floor that is used regularly for groups as small as six dancers. Lyrics in Motion’s dance …
