Goddess Shelly Bernardini hosts the 2nd annual bra run to support for breast cancer research with a bike run and Athena's Boudoir bingo.
More than 70 motorcycle riders showed up at the City Side Sunday to participate in the Athena’s Cup 2nd Annual Bra Run to give support to the fight against breast cancer while donating bras toward the Athena’s Cup charity. Shelly Bernardini, a goddess for Athena’s Home Novelties, hosted the event as a way to collect bras and donations for the Athena's Cup: a fundraiser for breast cancer which also aims to raise awareness of the disease by beating the World Record for the longest chain of bras. The Woonsocket-based adult novelty shop has been collecting bras since 2009 and currently has around 69,000. The world record is 169,000. Athena's Cup 2nd Annual Bike Run to benefit breast cancer research.
Woonsocket residents may catch a glimpse of a strange sight this Sunday as motorcycles creatively decked out in women's undergarments rev through city streets for a good cause. The Athena's Cup 2nd Annual Bike Run will take off at City Side this Sunday, while "Boudoir Bingo" entertains those who opt to stay behind. The dual event will raise funds for Susan G Komen for the Cure, a foundation dedicated to education and research about causes, treatment and the search for a cure, to breast cancer. The bras collected from both the bikers and Bingo players, meanwhile, will join a chain of more than 63,000 collected over that past two years in attempt to beat the World Record. Hollywood joins Athena's Home Novelties in the effort to fight breast cancer, one cup at a time.
Athena's is fighting breast cancer one bra at a time and with the help of a few celebrities, may even break the world record for a "bra train" of 169,000 bras, all while bringing a little piece of Hollywood back home to Woonsocket. The effort began in September of 2009 when founder, president and "mother goddess," of the adult novelty shop Jennifer Jolicoeur gathered with members of her training team after several long hot days of meetings in Orlando, Florida. "One of the girls was so warm that she took off her bra and threw it on the floor," Jolicoeur said. "So all of us joined in, leaving our shirts on, of course.
