  Santa - St. Nick is on his way to Woonsocket, kids! How are you going to know where the big guy is? NORAD. That's how. Council 2013 - The Woonsocket City Council's next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2013.  Calling all plows - The City of Woonsocket is interested in hiring private trucks with plows, as well as four wheel drive vehicles with plows and other snow removal equipment on an hourly rental basis.   Rte. 99 - In case you were busy getting ready for the weekend in the late hours of Friday afternoon, we're here to tell you this morning - Rte. 99's taking on some extra traffic from Lincoln and Cumberland right now. Manville Hill Road Bridge is closed. Until the summer, at least. Local traffic trying to cross the Blackstone River will be diverted via Rte. 99 for the duration  Plan your morning commute accordingly. It's finally Friday - here are some things to know.

  Monument dedication - Come out to the corner of Mason and South Main Streets Saturday at 10 a.m. for the unveiling of a monument to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy.   School's in - Today is the first day of school for Woonsocket Public Schools. Mind the extra pedestrians crossing the street this morning, and be careful passing bus stops. The first day will be a sunny one for students, and 74 degrees. Providence Street Closed - Repairs to a broken sewer main on Providence Street near #121 will close the road today from to Lincoln Street to Ballou Street. The repair is expected to take one workday to complete. There will be no thru-trucking on Providence Street from South Main Street to Smithfield Road that day. Check out a list of detours and plan your day accordingly. Hi, taxed2death - Under the state law that empowers a Budget Commission to take over municipal finances, the body is not bound by open meeting law. I'm not sure what the architects of the law thought was so burdensome about open meeting law, or if that part of it got much attention when the General Assembly was considering it.   more ›
