Challenger has similar view to Baldelli-Hunt on taxes, new economic development ideas.
When Stuart Gitlow ran against Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) in the primary the first time in 2010, he won 19.4 percent of the vote. For the 2012 primary, with greater name recognition, a similar stance on the supplemental tax issue as his opponent and new ideas about economic development up his sleeve, he likes his chances a little better. Cote, Brien, Baldelli-Hunt face primary contests Sept. 11.
There's a lot of competition for Woonsocket's Democrats in the Sept. 11 statewide primary, so make sure you're registered by the Aug. 12 deadline to have a say in who'll face who in the Nov. 6 election. In Rhode Island, if you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary, said Rob Rock at the RI Secretary of State's office. Once you vote in a particular primary, you're automatically registered as a member of that party. However, Rock said, on your way out of the polling place, you can ask a poll worker to dis-affiliate you, returning you to independent voting status. Rock said that although Aug. 12 is a Sunday, the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers office at City Hall will be open from 1-4 p.m. for any…
