Cookie Walk Offers 50 Kinds of Cookie Saturday

St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church is still rebuilding after a fire claimed their worship space last year, but their annual Cookie Walk this Saturday, 9 a.m till noon, is firing on all ovens.

"Our ladies have been baking for the last three, four weeks non-stop in their houses," said Fr. Anthony Perkins. All that baking will produce about 50 varieties of cookies for the eighth annual event.

Many of the types of cookies are prepared from recipes church members have gathered from around the globe, Perkins said. Some of their recipes hail from countries and regions such as the Ukraine, Germany, South America and Hungary.

Proceeds from the cookie walk will aid the church's charitable outreach and their continuing effort to rebuild following the Nov. 2012 fire. Since then, Perkins said, they've been worshiping in an adjacent hall at the 74 Harris Ave. location. That's where the Cookie Walk will take place, too.

As for the "Walk" in the name of the event, Perkins has a theory on the origin. "I think it because you walk around from table to table," he said.

Cookies are $8.50 per pound. For pre-orders of 5 pounds or more, call 765-1410 o 762-3939.
