Monday Essentials: No Trash Collection, Historic Reflection

Take a look at what's happening this week in Woonsocket.

Don't Toss Your Trash Yet: In observance of Victory Day, the Woonsocket Recycle Drop-off Facility will be closed Monday, Aug. 12. Residents are reminded that curbside pick-up of trash and recycling for the week of Aug. 12 to 16 will be delayed by one day. Call the Solid Waste Division at (401) 767-8880 if you have any questions.

History in Pictures: on Wednesday night, Aug, 14, the city's 125th anniversary celebration continues with "Then and Now," a slide show of historic Woonsocket images, at St. Ann's Arts and Cultural Center. Admission is $10.

Mystery Solved: After spurring lots of speculation, the identity of the new art installation in Monument Square has been revealed: A scale model of the Arc de Triomphe is in the works — the staging was expected to start going up at dawn on Monday.

Budget Commission Meets: The Woonsocket Budget Commission is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Aug. 13, starting at 3 with a closed session and continuing in open session at 4 p.m. Appointment of a new principal at Coleman School, a review of cash flow, and library vacancies are on the budget commission agenda.

Did You Vote Yet? Rhode Island game maker Hasbro is issuing a specially-themed Monopoly game this winter — and you can vote for one of the tokens.
