BankRI Collecting Children's Books in April

Collection to support local nonprofit Books are Wings.

BankRI is collecting children's books at 18 of its branches throughout Rhode Island in April to support Books are Wings, a local nonprofit that helps deliver books to the state's neediest children.

The goal is to collect 2,000 books and Vice President of Community Relations for Bank RI, Patricia O'Donnell-Saracino, said it's an effort everyone should look forward to.

"I can’t think of anything more important to a child’s future than fostering a love of reading; the life-long benefits are overwhelming and they all start with helping them excel in the classroom," she said.

It's the fourth-annual partnership with Books are Wings and along with the book drive, the bank has granted $1,500 to fund an after-school book party in Central Falls, which will provide reading time and literacy-based activities to children in kindergarten through third grade.
