Woonsocket Getting Another Heat Wave This Week

Another heat wave begins today as hot and humid air returns to Woonsocket  and the Southern New England region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Monday from noon until 8 p.m.  Hot weather and high humidity values will persist for the remainder of the week with feel-like temperatures reaching into the 100 degree range.

High temps pose a significant threat to the very young, elderly, those with pre-existing medical conditions and persons working outdoors.  Stay well hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to high heat.

Where To Cool Down: As of post time, the city's official cooling centers were not yet activated. However, the following spots are routinely open to the public and are air-conditioned:

  • The Woonsocket Senior Center at 84 Social St. is available for you to get in from the heat from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are no services (such as food or entertainment) available for the general public, but there's a cool spot for you to sit if you need it.
  • The Harris Woonsocket Public Library at 303 Clinton St. is another spot where you can get in from the heat — and see some of your neighbors.
