National Night Out Returns Aug. 6 At River Island Park

National Night Out, an anti-crime rally and family event, returns to River Island Park Aug. 6, 4-8 p.m.

The event will feature free food and drinks and a raffle for a girls and a boys bike.  There will also be a free bike helmet giveaway courtesy of Connecting with Children and Families (CCF). The evening will also offer giant bouncy houses, Smoky the Bear, Bobo the Clown, and a smoke house which simulates smoky fire conditions for training on what to expect in house fire.

Several local agencies will also be on hand to talk about their services and provide demonstrations, including the YWCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, a live police canine unit and the Woonsocket Police forensic BCI team and Special Response Team (SRT). There will also be a photographer available to catch photo ops with agency members, said Officer James Cote.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Vendors will also be in attendance to distribute literature on crime prevention programs and services to residents in the community.
