Villa Novans Aim to Break Clippers' Two-Year Thanksgiving Streak

Woonsocket takes on Cumberland at 10:30 a.m. Thanksgiving at Woonsocket High School's field, looking to break Cumberland's two-year winning streak.

Last year, the Villa Novans lost the annual matchup 32-0. Cumberland won in 2011, beating Woonsocket 35-6 in what was a down year for the Villa Novans. Previously, Woonsocket won four straight games in the series, from 2007 to 2010.

According to statistics kept at Rhode Island High School Sports, Cumberland leads the all-time Thanksgiving series 28-17, with four ties between the teams. The series dates back to 1964.

On Thursday, Woonsocket coach Carnell Henderson was still assessing the team's loss to St. Raphael 15-14, costing the team their bid for the playoffs. Still, with the players performing admirably this season, Henderson said he's optimistic about their chances. "I feel comfortable with our team," Henderson said.
