WHS Football Player Working On Bright Future

WHS football player Jaston Robinson doesn't complain about hurdles he encounters — he works hard to overcome them.

Last year, a knee injury sidelined him for the Villanovans, and the problem kept him from playing at his best this year, too. But, "He's not one to complain," said WHS football coach Carnell Henderson. Instead, Robinson worked hard to play as much as possible and to overcome his injury. Even with the injury, he led the team with the most tackles, 88, in 2012.

"He's definitely one of the most humble, hard-working kids I've had the opportunity to work with," Henderson said. If not for his injuries, Robinson would've certainly made first team this year, he said.

His determination also showed in his GoFundme effort to raise money to attend football camp over the summer. "This sport was introduced to me at the age of seven. Since then, I have not stopped playing.  Being raised by a single mother in subsidized housing and having countless financial and family issues throughout my childhood has only made me more focused on my goals. Determination drives me in every workout and every down that I play," Robinson said in his letter to potential donors on the page.

"My dream is to play at the college level. In order to achieve this goal, I will need all the help I can receive including summer football camps. Since I will be a junior next year, I need to have a prominent football season. My goal is to get All-State. These camps will teach me excellent techniques, provide inspiration, and help me become a better athlete. Regrettably, I would not be able to attend these camps because of our financial constraints," Robinson wrote.

The fundraiser was successful - bringing in $505 of his $600 goal. "I'm now on my way to the camp ! Thank you all I'm very excited and want you all to know that I couldnt have done this without you!" Robinson wrote on the page.

Henderson said Robinson isn't just dedicated on the field. He's also a diligent student. "I think he realizes football is an opportunity for him to get out," Henderson said.

Henderson said Robinson is busy working in the gym and in the classroom to make his junior year a successful one, and he sees a kid who can do great things. "The ceiling's high for him," he said.
