With the latest release of NECAP scores from the Rhode Island Department of Education, Beacon Charter High School for the Arts once again stands out.
In May, Beacon’s junior class sat for the Science NECAP test. In the end, 45 percent reached proficiency, up from 28 percent last year. In fact, this represents a nearly 40 percent increase since 2008.
The average for the state this year is 32 percent, up from 28 percent last year.
Beacon Science teacher Jessica Waters was recently named Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, the first charter school teacher to receive that honor. Beacon Charter High School for the Arts, located in Woonsocket, is currently in its tenth year of operation and is widely regarded as the most successful charter school in Rhode Island.
