I don't want to wear my seatbelt

Now I know this is controversial, but I don't understand the logic behind the seatbelt law in RI.  I think it's a personal decision.

If I were riding a motorcycle, I can opt out of wearing a helmet.  It's a personal choice.  You have to wear a shirt while riding a motorcycle, but not a helmet.  We wouldn't want you to get road rash if you crash, but slamming your head against the concrete is all good.  I personally have no desire to change the "helmet" law. It's not my decision.  I don't care.  If I'm a passenger on a bike, I'll wear a helmet, it's the law. 

Now I think all the passengers in my car should wear a seatbelt.  I'm responsible for them, therefore, they must be secured.  But why do I HAVE to wear my seatbelt, in MY car?  I don't understand. 

Some states are passing laws on smoking in your car while there are children with you.  Makes sense to me.  Why hotbox your car with children?
Don't drink and drive, no brainer.  Don't text and drive, makes sense.  But my seatbelt?  How am I a danger to anyone if I don't wear my seatbelt? 

Now you are an officer of the law, or nurse, or doctor, I don't want hear about the people you've seen when they don't wear their seatbelt and have an accident.  If you say it's worse for non seatbelt wearers, I'm going to call you a liar. I personally have known people who have died in an accident with their seatbelt on and people who have died with their seatbelt off. It is what it is. If your number comes up, just pray you are playing powerball. 

What threat am I to anyone else if I choose not to wear my seatbelt?  No more threat than a bike rider without a helmet. 

I've had surgeries in the last year that happen to make it painful for me to wear a seatbelt.  Therefore, I don't want to wear my seatbelt.  Perhaps I should ride a motorcycle.  No seatbelt and no helmet.
