When Public Officials Forget Who They Work For

Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kathleen Sebelius seems to have forgotten a basic concept for every public servant from dog catcher to president, they work for us!  The taxpayers, the citizenry, we the people.  In her case, we pay her annual salary of $200,700.  At least Sebelius began her testimony recently before the House Energy & Commerce Committee with two powerful words "I'm sorry."  She went on to accept responsibility for the debacle that is the rollout of the Affordable Health Care Act a.k.a. Obamacare.  Unfortunately we see a pattern of behavior that is troublesome if not outrageous.

When asked by the media, who frequently give this Administration passes when the Bush Administration was regularly vilified, specifics about the number of persons enrolled using the healthcare.gov website, Sebelius was nothing short of disingenuous when she replied she didn’t know or didn’t have the exact numbers.  We have since found out that on the first day the website was operational a total of 6 people registered.

Stop and think about it, a few Saturdays ago President Obama used his weekly radio address to explain why the healthcare.gov website wasn't working.  Seriously? Show me where in private industry you would have a CEO doing that?  The time is overdue for a change in leadership over this abomination that is the government health care program.  It is time for new leadership at HHS beginning with Secretary Sebelius!

Sebelius had said that she doesn't work for the people who have demanded her resignation.  Well sorry about that Madam Secretary, but you do!

Now is the time for her to follow-up her "I'm sorry" with two equally powerful and timely words: "I resign."
