Enjoy the Blackstone River Bike Path

The Blackstone River Valley section of the Interstate Bike Path offers bicyclists, joggers and walkers alike with beautiful views of the Blackstone River, and several textile mills that once depended on waterpower.

(Originally, I had written this blog entry in late July 2013.)
With the second oppressive heat wave of Summer 2013 officially over, this morning was a great opportunity to break out and enjoy the Blackstone River Bike Path, and that we did.  Parking in the Manville lot, we made it as far as Lonsdale.  The Bike Path is one of the great and by that I mean under appreciated offerings of the Blackstone River Valley.

Why be surprised? After all this is Rhode Island.

Forget it all and focus on the natural beauty of the Bike Path and the river that gives it its name.  Remember, the Blackstone River was considered the "hardest working river" in the United States second only to the Mississippi.
A definite place to stop and refresh is the Kelly House in Valley Falls.  The rangers are helpful and friendly. The house itself represents the blend between farming and textiles (the Ashton Mills are still standing, though now are condos).
