Wednesday Five: Walk, Jolicoeur, Venture, Chime In

It's a busy day in Woonsocket - keep abreast with these things to know:

 

Walk - Today schools across the state will participate in the International Walk to School Day. The event is the celebration of getting to class by foot or bicycle,
sponsored locally by the Coalition for Transportation Choices and its member groups, Audubon Society of RI, AARP, and Sierra Club RI. So, take extra care on your way to work today, and remember to be alert for kids walking to school in general.

Local schools participating include:Bernon Heights School, Kevin K. Coleman Elementary School, Leo A. Savoie School, and Viola Berard School.

Place Jolicoeur -Today at 4 p.m., The Woonsocket War Memorial Committee will conduct a Remembrance Ceremony of WWI Veteran, William Jolicoeur on Oct. 3, the anniversary date of his passing in 1921. The ceremony will take place at Fire Station #2, 5 Cumberland Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI. The event will also present the recently restored Place Jolicoeur Monument.

Venture - All Saints Parish's Venturing Crew meeting will be held tonight at the church, 6:45 p.m. Venturing, a little known part of The Boys Scouts of America, is made up of boys and girls between the ages of 14-21. It is a non denominational leadership program where youths learn to be leaders while enjoying the company of their peers under the supervision of registered adults of BSA.

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID.
