Tuesday Five: Brief School Committee, Express, Diner, Coat Weather

We're another day closer to Turkey time - here are some more things to know:

School Committee -  The Woonsocket School Committee meets tonight, 5 p.m., at the McFee Administration Building, 108 High St. in the first floor conference room. There's one item on their brief agenda - discussion and vote of administrative contracts.

Polar Express - The Blackstone Valley Polar Express is back in Woonsocket Sunday, Nov. 25, departing from Station One Depot Square at 1 and 4 p.m. for a 90-minute holiday excursion and reading of the Chris Van Allsburg’s classic, The Polar Express with appearances by The Chef serving hot chocolate and cookies, The Conductor, punching tickets, and The Engineer calling “All Aboard! Santa and Mrs. Claus appear and kids get a coloring book, crayons, and a very special gift presented personally by Santa.

State Job - There's a job posting for a social worker making at least $43,321 a year with the RI Human Services Department. Polish up your resume.

Diner for lease - Been itching to start up a new restaurant? Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley is offering experienced restauranteurs a lease of the diner car once home to “Champs Diner,” on Park Avenue, now waiting a new tenant and customers at 719 Front St. The car was one of more than 600 diners produced by the Worcester Lunch Car and Carriage Manufacturing Company.

Applications to win the lease, including a resume and business plan, are due Feb. 13.

Weather - Today, the forecast is for a high temperature of 49 degrees, with winds at 5 to 10 mph. That's probably going to mean a pretty chilly day if you're dithering about breaking out your winter coat and decide to chance it.
