Strong Winds Could Cause Power Outages Friday

Hear that wind outside? — a Wind Advisory is in effect for Woonsocket and the rest of Rhode Island today, according to the National Weather Service.

Two episodes of strong winds are expected. The first round is hitting Friday morning, with south to southwest wind gusts up to 50 mph. A second round of strong winds will occur Friday afternoon as a cold front sweeps across the region. Again, gusts up to 50 mph could occur.

The winds could knock down some small tree branches, resulting in isolated power outages. Driving may also be difficult. For power outage information, check the National Grid Power Outage Map, which lists area outages and estimates time for restoration of electricity.

The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.
