Special Election to Fill Baldelli-Hunt's Seat Set for Feb. 25

Candidates have a two-day window Dec. 12 -13 to declare intent at Board of Canvassers.

As Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt begins her first day in office, RI Secretary of State Ralph Mollis has announced a Feb. 25 special election to fill her Dist. 49 representative seat in the general assembly.

Baldelli-Hunt, who was sworn in as Woonsocket Mayor on Tuesday, Dec. 3 by House Speaker Gordon Fox, had served one year of the two-year term voters granted her last November when she was elected Mayor Nov. 5, 2013.

Candidates interested in running for the vacant State Representative (District 49) seat have two business days to file a formal declaration of candidacy during the declaration of candidacy period, which begins Dec. 12, ending Dec. 13, at 4 p.m. 

Declarations must be filed with the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers, third floor, City Hall, 169 Main St. A primary is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2014.
