School Committee To Discuss Raising WHS Passing Grade Threshold

Agenda features talk on changing passing score back to 70.

 

School Committee member Vimala Phongsavanh is introducing a proposal during tonight's meeting of the board to raise the threshold for a passing grade at Woonsocket High School from 60 to 70.

The Woonsocket Call reports the agenda item will include a discussion of how the passing grade change to 60 has worked out.

The change went into effect last year, which in essence would have aided about 30 Woonsocket High School Seniors in making graduation that year.

The committee will also discuss the district's attendance policy.

Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect the effect of the lowered passing grade. While the change would have improved the graduation rate, the stated reason for the swtich was to align graduation requirements with those of  RIDE.
