PHOTOS: MLK Day Of Service Saturday

Volunteers helped clean, paint murals at schools.

Last weekend's events celebrating Martin Luther King began on Friday with a banquet at Savini’s Restaurant on Rathbun Street, followed by a Day of Community Service at the Woonsocket Police Deptartment lobby, the painting of new murals at The Woonsocket High School Gym and Woonsocket YMCA and cleaning inside Kevin K. Coleman Elementary School.

On Sunday, a worship service in King's honor was held at St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main St.

The events were wrapped up on Monday with a brief ceremony at the Martin Luther King memorial on South Main Street.

During Monday's ceremony, Police Chief Thomas Carey called Saturday's Day of Service one of the best highlights of his career.
