Jalette to Serve as Woonsocket Public Safety Director

Eugene Jalette, former detective and public information officer for the Woonsocket Police Department, is the City's acting Public Safety Director, a position long vacant.

Jalette, a resident of Mapleville, retired from the WPD in June 2012. Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt appointed Jalette to the Public Safety Director role in an acting capacity Dec. 13. All of Baledelli-Hunt's director's appointments have been as acting positions

The position is a liaison role between the Police and Fire Chiefs and the Mayor. The City's approved FY 2014 budget allocates $47,864 for the position. Jalette said he and the mayor have not yet discussed his compensation for the job.

The post was unfilled under Mayor Leo Fontaine's administration, with Fontaine performing those duties.
