Finally Friday Five: Blood, Police Promotions, Candidates And Calendar

The weekend is nigh - here are some things to know:

Blood drive - The RI Blood Center will be set up to collect that red, hemoglobin packed, oxygen-bearing stuff that you've hopefully only seen after a bad morning of shaving. Not everyone's that lucky, though - so donate some today at Landmark Medical Center starting at noon.

Police promotions - Tonight at 6 p.m., The Woonsocket Police Department will be holding a promotion ceremony in Harris Hall at City Hall:

Officer Sean Carpenter will be promoted to Sergeant.
Officer John Raymond will be promoted to Sergeant.
Sergeant Edward Cunanan will be promoted to Lieutenant.

All are welcome.

Candidates forum - Candidates running for the General Assembly in the 2012 election have accepted an invitation to the Aug. 28 Meet the Candidates forum sponsored by MyWoonsocket.com and 1380 WNRI. The free, open-to-the-public event will be held at , 267 Main St., 7 p.m. Add your questions to the comments here.

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. If you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote as either Republican or Democratic in the Sept. 11 primary - just ask the poll worker to to dis-affiliate you on the way out after to return to independent status. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID.

Calendar - If you've got an event you want to share with the many readers of the Woonsocket Patch, you can be your own best advocate - post it yourself to the Woonsocket Patch calendar. Fill in the blanks with your event's information, and you're good to go.
