Woonsocket's Fairmount Street Mill To Return To Manufacturing

Jules Desurmont Worsted Mill will be renovated, used by Plastics Group of America.

 

On Monday at 10 a.m., Mayor Leo Fontaine will lead a brief ceremony at launching the restoration of the , located at 84 Fairmount St.

Plastics Group of America (TPG), will purchase the building and spend the next six to eight months converting the facility into additional manufacturing space for the company, said Gregory Czarnowski, a spokesman for the company. The work will return the mill complex to its manufacturing origins, he said. The restoration could employ 25-40 people, and the finished mill will employ at least 10 people.

Fontaine will be joined by executives from TPG, including the company's president, Bob Lebeaux, as well as members of the Woonsocket City Council.

The property is currently owned by Mathias Properties, LLC, and valued at $737,000, according to the Woonsocket's Assesor's Online Database. In August 2011, Woonsocket Patch interviewed owner Paul Mathias about the history of the site and his intent for the future use of the buidling (see attached video).
