Eighty-fifth Festival of the Stars Coming April 17-19

Annual celebration of theatre education hosted at Stadium Theatre, Beacon Charter School.

New England Drama Festival 2013 - Festival of the Stars will take place at the historic Stadium Theatre for the Performing Arts hosted by Beacon Charter School for the Arts and the Rhode Island Theatre Education Association on April 17, 18, & 19, 2013.

This is the 85th annual festival which started in RI in 1928. Hosted originally in Pawtucket and having been primarily Rhode Island (with only two representatives from Massachusetts), the festival has expanded to all six New England States under the guidance of the New England Drama Council.

The festival is about celebrating theatre education in New England. Schools will showcase their work to each other throughout the three days, but will also participate in educational workshops  from theatre professionals. The students and directors will also participate in forums to learn what they did well and how to improve their art.

Between 500 and 700 attendees will be in Woonsocket for the event, hosted primarily at Beacon Charter and the Stadium. The Father Marot CYO Center will host workshops and the closing banquet and ceremonies will take place at Mount Saint Charles Academy on Friday afternoon.

Area vendors and colleges will be present as well as a very special lunch and dinner for Thursday - six of Providence's food trucks will be on hand to serve our stars at the festival! The event is sure to be a stelar experience for all in attendance.
