Columbus Day: What's Open, What's Not

Check our list of closed offices and save yourself a trip to a locked door Monday.

Columbus Day Weekend is upon us, and in addition to its coinciding with Autumnfest festivities, the holiday, observed on Monday, is also a federal holiday.

That means city offices are going to be closed, as will the Woonsocket Harris Public Library. Their hours today are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and they're not open on Sundays, so today is your last chance to drop off a due book or collect some good novels or movies for the long weekend.

Also during the holiday:

  • School's out - Kids and teachers have the day off.
  • Post office - The postal service has the day off, but the stamp window is open today at 127 Social St, (401) 769-6853, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Senior services - Woonsocket Senior Services at 84 Social St. will be closed.

Columbus Day, observed annually on the second Monday of October, according to timeanddate.com, remembers Christopher Columbus' arrival to the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492.
