Canvassers Open Sunday for Last Day of Voter Registration

If you're not registered to vote yet for the Oct. 8 primary, time is short — the Board of Canvassers closes at 4 p.m. Friday and will open noon till 4 p.m. Sunday for voter registration.

The Board of Canvassers office is located at City Hall, 169 Main St., on the third floor, directly across from Harris Hall.

The City will need a primary to whittle down the five mayoral candidates to three and the 15 City Council candidates to 14 for the Nov. 5 city election.

Vying to run in the at-large mayoral race are incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine, current state Rep. Lisa Baldelli Hunt (D-Dist. 49, Woonsocket), David Fisher, Roland Michaud, and Michael Moniz.

Potential contenders for the at-large City Council race are incumbents Council President John Ward, Vice President Dan Gendron, Christopher Beauchamp, Al Brien, Marc Dubois, Roger Jalette and Bob Moreau against challengers Eric Cartier, Jeffrey Belknap, Garrett Mancieri, Richard Fagnant, Melissa Murray, Kathryn M. Dumais and School Committee Members Anita McGuire-Forcier and Chris Roberts.

This year, thanks to a referendum approved by voters November 2012, the Mayor will appoint candidates for the School Committee, who will then be approved by the City Council before taking office.
