WPD Names Man in Saturday Incident With Officer Firing Shots

The WPD has identified the subject of Saturday's domestic crime investigation, during which a Woonsocket officer fired shots, as Angelo Luiz Perez, 48, of 175 Sixth Ave.

Woonsocket Police intend to charge Perez, arrested Saturday in Bellingham, MA by Bellingham Police, with Domestic Disorderly Conduct, Violation of a No Contact Order and Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a motor vehicle, according to a release sent to media Wednesday morning. Perez is being held in Massachusetts as a Fugitive from Justice, and will be arraigned in Rhode Island at an as-yet undetermined date.

WPD Police Information Officer Det. Jamie Paone was not able to comment on how Perez collected the charges against him, because they are elements of an ongoing investigation, she said.

Paone said Woonsocket Officers were called to the area of Clinton Street and Pond Street at about 1:20 a.m. Nov. 16 as part of an ongoing investigation prior to the events involving the officer firing the weapon. The shots fired by the officer occurred outside, she said.
