WPD Called for Shots at Vehicle, Arrest Man Hiding in Home

The following information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A city man faces domestic felony assault charges after Woonsocket officers responded to a report that he fired shots at a vehicle as it left his house early Saturday.

When Woonsocket Police arrived at Damaso Hernandez Sr.'s home at 4:52 a.m., the man refused to leave his house to speak with the officers, according to a release from the Woonsocket Police Department. When officers finally convinced Hernandez to come to the door, he attempted to slam it on them. The officers prevented the door from closing and were able to grasp Hernandez by the arms. A brief struggle ensued, according to the release. The officers were able to take Hernandez into custody without injury to him or them.

Police searched Hernandez's home, turning up a shotgun, 9mm Ruger handgun, and AR-15 rifle, all loaded. Officers also found a musket style gun, a sword, pellet gun, and buck knife. Police seized them all as part of the investigation.

Woonsocket Police are charging Hernandez with two counts of domestic felony assault with a weapon, firing a weapon in a compact area, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice.
