Woonsocket Policeman Arrests Man Lying in Front of Thundermist on 2004 Warrant

Nine years after issuing an arrest warrant for a man who passed a bad check for $1,505.00, Woonsocket Police found him lying on the grass outside Thundermist Health Center July 14.

Gary Fontaine, 49, allegedly passed the bad check to Lauzon Funeral Home, according to Woonsocket Police records. Todd Lauzon, funeral director at the Lauzon Funeral Home, reported to police in 2004 that Fontaine had given him the bad check as payment, and had sent a registered letter to Fontaine at his 15 Bently St. address informing him the check had bounced.

Lauzon said he'd also reached Fontaine on the phone and arranged for payment of the debt, but the payment hadn't come through, according to police records.

Nine years later on July 14 at about 8:26 a.m., officer Patrick Roy observed a man, later identified as Fontaine, lying on the grass in front of Thundermist Health Center at 450 Clinton St., according to Roy's report. Roy said the man appeared to be sleeping.

Roy reported he called to Fontaine several times, who stirred and said he was resting, and had only been there a short time. Roy reported Fontaine's hands were shaking, and he appeared nervous. A check of his ID revealed the 2004 warrant, and no current address. Roy arrested him.
