Woonsocket Police Charge Woman with Assaulting 3 Officers

Luz DeJesus, 46, faces multiple charges following her arrest for DUI. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A local woman faces multiple assault charges after Woonsocket Police say she assaulted three officers.

Luz DeJesus, 46, faces three misdemeanor counts of assault and one count each of DUI and disorderly conduct following the July 27 incident, where Patrol Ofc. Joseph Brazil reported finding her unconscious in the driver's seat of a car that had struck a parked vehicle at Mason Street and Fifth Avenue.

According to Brazil's report, once staffers at Landmark Medical Center woke her up, DeJesus "immediately became agitated," and refused to speak with officers in English, even though Brazil noted that he believed she could understand him.

When another officer asked her in Spanish how many drinks she'd had, DeJesus replied "cinco' [five], Brazil reported.

After conducting eye tests that showed signs that DeJesus was intoxicated, Brazil explained that he saw DeJesus "make a lunge" and hit another officer who had responded to the medical center.

Brazil also noted that as he was completing paperwork for her arrest, DeJesus "became violent, throwing the documents to the floor and screaming in Spanish."

As DeJesus continued, Brazil wrote that he saw two visitors arrive, and ordered them to stand at a distance. At that point, he reported, DeJesus kicked him in the knee.

Following her release from Landmark, officers brought DeJesus to police headquarters, where she kicked Ofc. Taylor-Rae Monfils, according to Brazil's report.

Officers filed the case against DeJesus on July 29 in Third District Court. She is next due for an arraignment hearing on Aug. 14.
