Woonsocket Police Bringing Back Recognition Awards

WPD To recognize departmental, community members for valor, citizenship, achievement.

After an absence of more then a decade, the Woonsocket Police Department is about to restore its Departmental Recognition Awards.  Eligible police officers and civilian employees could receive awards for officer of the year, educational achievement, physical fitness, life saving, merit and valor among others.

In addition to recognizing employees, the police department will offer two community awards.  One will be for citizen of the year and the other, organization of the year.  For the citizen award, consideration will be given to a person who has worked in partnership with the police department providing a significant contribution to the enhancement of the community’s quality of life.  Some factors for the award could include leadership, courage, values and ethics.  It could be a single act or a combination of acts throughout the past year, 2012.  For the organization award, any community organization which has worked in partnership with the police department during 2012 that engaged in an activity that resulted in a significant contribution to the community’s quality of life is eligible.

If you think someone may be eligible for the citizen of the year award or an organization for the organization of the year award, please submit a nomination in writing with the reason why and direct it to the attention of Lieutenant Edward Cunanan by December 14, 2012.  It can be mailed or dropped off at the police station.  The address is Woonsocket Police Department, 242 Clinton Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island 02895.  If you have any questions, please contact Chief Thomas S. Carey at (401) 767-8829.
