Woonsocket Officer Bitten by Pitbull While Arresting Woman for Domestic Assault

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

An officer responding to a domestic disturbance between a couple on Burnside Avenue was bitten by one of the occupant's dogs May 7 while a woman resisted arrest.

At about 6:18 a.m., Woonsocket Police Officers Christopher Bouvier and Patrick Greeno were called to a Burnside Avenue apartment building after a man who sounded very upset called the department, according to Officer Michael Theroux's report.

The officers arrvived to find a man who said he had had an argument with Katie Acevedo, 45, his wife, who had locked him out of the apartment. Greeno knocked on the door, eventually speaking with Acevedo, who told him she hadn't called and had no need for the police. Greeno explained he had to check on the apartment and the condition of anyone inside, and Acevedo let him in, according to his report.

As Greeno checked the apartment, Acevedo insisted he should leave and refused to remain still as instructed, wandering close to the kitchen where several knives were in plain view, becoming increasingly hostile.

Greeno pulled out a chair and asked her to calm down and have a seat, which she refused. Greeno reported he took her wrist to escort her to the chair, but she broke away, pushing him and demanding that he leave again. Greeno told her she was under arrest for assault, but she resisted, yelling and telling Greeno she was crazy and he shouldn't mess with her.

At this point, one of the girls in the apartment opened a door to see what was the matter, letting two pitbulls out. One of them bit Greeno in the forearm, but shortly after Acevedo's husband entered the apartment and restrained the dogs.

Acevedo continued reisisting arrest, yelling that she would sue the officers and trying to escape. Theroux spoke with the husband, who had scratches on his neck he said were from work, but appeared to be fresh.

Acevedo was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, and domestic assault.
