Woonsocket Man Threatens to Kill Ex Girlfriend, Violates No-Contact Order

East Providence Police charge city man with felony violation of no-contact order, third offense.

East Providence Police tracked down and arrested a Woonsocket man who phoned his ex-girlfriend, threatening to kill her, violating a no-contact order Friday.

At 6:23 p.m. Jan. 17, East Providence officers were called to a local home for a report of a man who had violated a restraining order leaving the scene in a red pickup.

Officers spotted the pickup on Pawtucket Avenue at the entrance to Village Green, speaking with the driver, Matthew Forrest Phelps Sr., 27, of 30 Delude St., Apt. 1st., who said he was in the area to visit his ex-girlfriend, according to the police report.

The woman in question told officers she'd received several calls from Phelps that day, in violation of a no-contact order and restraining order against him. During one of the phone calls, she said, he told her he was "going to bash her f****** skull in," she said, according to the report.

Officers arrested Phelps, charging him with felony violation of a no-contact order, third offense. He will appear on the charge March 24 in Sixth District Court.
