Woonsocket Man Pleads Guilty to Six Child Molestation and Five Child Rape Charges

Superior Court Magistrate John F. McBurney sentenced Melise to 50 years with 15 to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston with the remainder of the sentence suspended with probation.

Forty-two-year-old Stephen Melise on Woonsocket pleaded guilty to six counts of secon-degree child molestation, five counts of first-degree sexual assault and a count of indecent solicitation of a minor in Superior Court on Friday.

Superior Court Magistrate John F. McBurney sentenced Melise to 50 years with 15 to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston with the remainder of the sentence suspended with probation.

He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, a young girl to whom he was related from the time she was 13 to 16, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin said. 

The girl reported the abuse to her mother, who reported it Woonsocket Police. Det. Ronald Marco and Det. Sgt. Matt Ryan led the investigation.

Melise also tried to solicit a 12-year-old girl, police said.

Along with prison time and probation, Melise was ordered to have no contact with the two victims, undergo sex offender counseling and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, which will require community notification.
