Woman Arrested for DUI Thought She was in Mendon

A woman driving a green Kia Soul past a traffic stop on East School Street Sept. 14 at about 1:40 a.m. caught Officer Jesse Nunnemacher's attention by reportedly neglecting to wear a seatbelt.

Christie Chapman, 29, of 1 Cross St., Hopedale, MA, followed that up by accelerating away from Nunnemacher at a high rate of speed, making it difficult for him to catch up to her, according to the officer's report. When he did, she allegedly failed a series of sobriety tests, adding a DUI to her seatbelt and speeding citations.

When Nunnemacher had Chapman's vehicle stopped and approached her, he noticed a strong odor of alcohol from Chapman, as well as bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, he reported.

Chapman allegedly failed the walk and turn and the one-leg stand, developments Nunnemacher responded to by arresting the driver. An inventory search of her vehicle prior to being towed from the scene allegedly uncovered 5 grams of marijuana, a non-criminal offense.

She was charged with DUI, first offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and citied her for possession of marijuana, failing to move over, and not wearing a seatbelt. While she was being processed,  she said she thought she was in Mendon, MA, according to the report.
