Woman Arrested for DUI Reportedly Looking for Non-Existent Road

Woonsocket Police Officer Patrick Greeno responded to Reservoir Avenue Oct. 22 at about 1:18 a.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle, stopping a black Nissan Maxima on Bertenshaw Road at Lydia Avenue.

Greeno was notified by Officer Patrick McGourty, who was also on the scene, that he suspected the driver, Kelly McKenna, 40, of 38 Vine St., Apt. 2, had been drinking. Greeno spoke with the McKenna, who stated she was on her way to a friend's house on Bertenshaw Road, but had gotten lost. She said she had consumed one glass of wine, according to Greeno's report

Greeno reported he spoke with McKenna, who repeated herself several times, saying she was looking for Littlefield Road, although there is no such road name in the city. Greeno also noted she had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Greeno asked McKenna to perform several field sobriety tests, which she did, failing to show smooth pursuit in both eyes, to keep her balance during a walk and turn, and to keep balance during a one-leg stand. She was arrested and charged with DUI.

A search of her vehicle turned up a bag containing less than an ounce of marijuana. At the station, during booking, McKenna said she had consumed four glasses of wine and smoked marijuana earlier in the day. She refused a chemical test.

McKenna was also charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test. She was issued a citation for possession of marijuana, carrying a fine of $150.
