Timothy Walsh Named Acting Fire Chief

Current Deputy Chief among 14 possible candidates for permanent appointment.

On Sunday,Woonsocket Fire Chief Gary Lataille's last day following his resignation Aug. 5, Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Walsh assumed the role of acting chief. 

Mayor Leo Fontaine announced the appointment, which was made two weeks ago, on Aug. 28, according to a report from the Woonsocket Call. Fontaine will begin the process of selecting the permanent chief. The Call reports the mayor is developing a formal application process for the $82,000 per year job.

Last Wednesday, Lataille said his last days with the department were routine, aside from his work to help prepare for the city's 125th Birthday Block Party. "It's like every other week," he said.

Lataille said he intends to market his skills in management in the private sector.
