Policeman Charged With Choking Girl At His Home

Nine-year-old told WPD that Officer Patrick Cahill, 23, chased and choked her Aug. 20.

According to a Woonsocket Police report, a 9-year-old girl has accused WPD Officer Patrick Cahill, 23, of 25 Newport St., of chasing her out of his home, dragging her back inside by the hair and choking her, leaving her with labored breath on Monday.

The report, which was made Aug. 20 at 5 p.m., was released this morning. arrested Cahill that day, charging him with felony assault. He was arraigned in District Court and released on $5,000 personal recognizance, and has been suspended from the police department without pay.

According to the report, the girl, who was at her father's home, where Cahill also lives, went downstairs to Cahill's room with her sister and began talking with him and watching television. Then, she and her sister went upstairs to watch television, returning to Cahill's room shortly after to ask if she could go outside.

The girl said Cahill began yelling at her, and she ran upstairs and outside the home, with Cahill chasing her. She tried to avoid Cahill by getting into a car parked in the driveway, but said he grabbed her by the hair, pulling her back inside the home.

Once inside, she said, Cahill threw her on the couch, put his hand around her chin and squeezed hard. Then he put his hands around her throat and began to strangle her, saying "You're not going to tell me what to do, you're not the boss."

The girl said by this point she was crying, and when Cahill let her go she had trouble breathing.

Public Information Officer Jamie L. Paone said the girl and her mother reported the incident at the Woonsocket Police Department. She said the girl received medical treatment as a result of the incident, but was not able to provide details on the girl's injuries.

Cahill will appear in Superior Court Oct. 23 for a pre-arraignment conference.

Isn't this the officer who was at the High School in Woonsocket? Gotta love this city!
tinkerbelangel28 August 23, 2012 at 05:40 AM
this is the same cop that when my husband hit me in the face would not take a police report....lmao...i think maybe he might need some ager management...
John August 23, 2012 at 11:54 AM
If your referring to Officer Cahill that was at the High School for years....no it is not him. It is his son.
RonW August 23, 2012 at 12:20 PM
I guess The city of Woonsocket doesn't pay enough. He needs to live with his daddy.
Loveing Life August 23, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Lmaooooo RonW and his daddy is no longer on the force for similar behavior so the apple didnt fall too far from the tree AGAIN. And at Common sence up there, I would suggest that you do some research .Stick up for them all you wish but like you said, innocent until proven guilty and hopefully the system will NOT fail this 9 year old girl. I have NEVER been arrested in my life but I do see alot of what goes on in the city.
Loveing Life August 23, 2012 at 12:43 PM
I agree with robert the the state troopers need to take over and I thought they had. I was seeing them almost every day and then they just stepped back. I would like to see them come back to woonsocket. I have much respect for those guys.
John Ward Jr. August 23, 2012 at 12:43 PM
I have a lot of common sense too...when i'm sober.
B August 23, 2012 at 01:50 PM
thank you. seriously. all these people are idiots.
B August 23, 2012 at 01:55 PM
I love how you guys all persecute the whole WPD because of the actions of a couple individuals. Obviously if this is true, he should and will be paying the consequences.
John August 23, 2012 at 02:45 PM
The State Police have had a greater presence in the city because Woonsocket was chosen as a training city for the State Police Cadets not because they were taking over the Police Department.

who the heck is John Ward Jr?? And seriously, how many GOOD Candidates got passed over when this punk was hired?? Nepotism continues to rear its ugly head in this City /State...When will we ever learn???
la_mouffette August 23, 2012 at 05:04 PM
John Ward jr. is a regular poster here who has a cloud of screen names that he uses. Nepotism....is the officer in this story related to someone? I haven't seen anything about that.
la_mouffette August 23, 2012 at 05:07 PM
I don't know, I think this would have made it to OMG PD on patch, even if Cahill were not an officer. I mean, the *accusation* (I wasn't there, so I can't call it anything else!) is that he choked a nine yr old girl. Just this week, a "regular Joe citizen" choked his girlfriend, and that was covered on Patch. http://woonsocket.patch.com/articles/police-log-man-arrested-for-choking-girlfriend-in-her-sleep As the city struggles, relations between different groups in the city are getting ugly, but I think this would still get coverage here, no matter who the accused was.
Tina August 23, 2012 at 05:29 PM
RonW no where in that article does it say he lived with "HIS" daddy. it says he lived in the same house as the little grl's daddy...dumbass
Seriously RI ?? August 23, 2012 at 05:32 PM
la moufatte...tried to reply to you...but no reply button? Isnt this kid the son of a retired Woonsocket Cop? Who if I recall, had a few anger issues of his own? should just steer clear of all relatives with re: to hiring...
Tina August 23, 2012 at 05:32 PM
B I agree...like every organization there are bad apples and the WPD is no different. this has been the case FOREVER...going back to when my parents were young growing up there. That should not take away from the good cops though that really are trying to clean up the city and make it a safe place for it's residents
Seriously RI ?? August 23, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Hey Patch, meant to hit "reply", not inappropriate, sorry. However Tina should know that the "dumbass" might have read the other thousand articles on the web which pretty much further explain that, the girl was his step sister, and that makes her Daddy, HIS Daddy..so, it looks like he is living with "their" daddy..Whether it is a multifamily..couldnt tell ya...but you wanna be sure before you call others a "dumbass"...:-)
John August 23, 2012 at 06:27 PM
Tina, His daddy and the little girl's Daddy are the same. So wouldn't he be living in his Daddy's house??
just sayinn August 24, 2012 at 07:10 AM
cahill both son and father started a soccer brawl at a championship girls soccer game back in 2010 . and don't forget his daughter was in the fight on the field . i don't think any of them should be any type of law enforcers . smh woonsocket .

They can stick that Policemen's Bill of Rights where the sun doesn't shine, they're no better than anyone else and should be held to a higher standard without hiding behind some firewall to protect them from us.

ward jr. is a direct decendant of john ward our council president. He happens to know all the secrets of the goings on in the city due to his fathers position. this man is the real power of the power. hes woonsocket s own hero but he canot come out due to high level nature of his knowledge. im in contac with him. through secrete coding on patch.people should stop thinking that he is only a coucou clock, not so.!! try to read through his ramblings and understand his complex meanings , they are so important. he will be anouncing some top level news over the weekend about woonsocket that will blow woonsocket residents away. we will get that news before any other news reports .i know because i know. we have met once before but i couldnt tell what he looked like because he was beaten up so severly and he was tottaly swolen by the beetings. i can only assume who would do that to him. daddy perhaps ! i could never confirm that. and no one could break him down to addmit who it was, good for you jr. as many beetings as you have to take even from patch readers keep up the good work. maybe you will have a place to go when the shelter is built. that will be better than what you have to endure at home. I can only igmagine the horrors we will learn when you get free counciling there. life will be better for you soon. you may get a good state job after you repent and find jesus Ill spend whatever it takes to help you through my tax dollars and attending their car washes. best of luck.JR. You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone. Please do not "secrete coding on patch" any lionger. It is known to unravel the fine thread so carefully woven to create the internet. Thank you.
John Ward Jr. August 24, 2012 at 01:49 PM
Bagged,i'm outta here folks!
la_mouffette August 24, 2012 at 05:45 PM
the mental imagine of coding being "secreted" is ... disgustingly intriguing, depending on the definition used.
Seriously RI ?? August 24, 2012 at 06:37 PM

With all the talk about the police officer, no talk about the help that is not coming for the 9-year-old girl. She is still the victim, is she not? As far as the fight on the field, what else are you supposed to do but what you have been taught. Maybe someone should try to get her some help and "reteach" her correct behavior. Stop the cycle. Just a thought...

I think hes a dirt bag ...this crap has to come to an end officers that think they can get away with breaking the law because they have a badge. ""Woonsocket. A disgraceful badge if you ask me ""lets look at steven fairly we all know he was drunk when he hit thst car but gets away with it ..also peter menard driving down a one way tbe wrong way hitting a car drunk he gets away with it. .state police needs to watch them more closely.
Robert Miller September 09, 2012 at 01:00 PM
i agree but this state is so for the cops to be able to do what they want hes going to get away with it and it not fair.he's only gonna get a suspended sentance if that.
