Police Log: Caller reports erratic driver, tow truck driver sees alcohol leaking from damaged car

The following information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Sept. 30

At about 11:56 p.m., were dispatched to the area of Lowe's parking lot to check out a report of a driver in a green Dodge pickup driving erratically. A witness reported the vehicle had struck several items in the road.

When police arrived in the area, the reporting witness was following the pickup while on the phone with the dispatcher. Police located the truck traveling on Diamond Hill Road toward Cumberland, and saw it drive on the sidewalk for about 60 feet before pulling into a plaza and stopping. The rear passenger tire was flat.

The driver, Charles W. Brin, 53, 58 Crest Road, Woonsocket, had trouble locating his license in his wallet, according to the police report, and smelled strongly of alcohol. He was arrested for driving under the influence, first offense.

At about 1:40 a.m., police pulled over a gray Ford Expedition stopped beyond the stop line at the corner of River Street and Main Street. A check revealed the driver, Danny Castro, 31, of 216 High St., Apt. 2, front, Woonsocket, had a suspended license. He was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and the Expedition was towed.

His passenger, Jonathan Castro, 30, of 216 High St., Apt. 2, front, Woonsocket, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Sunday, Oct. 2

At about 4:02 a.m. police stopped a blue Nissan at 383 Arnold St. after observing its front driver's side tire was flat and "completely demolished", with the vehicle traveling on the wheel's rim.

Police spoke with the driver, Breanna Carigan, 21, of 30 Field Road, Medway, MA and observed she had bloodshot eyes. Carigan failed sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence. Her car was towed from the scene.

At the police department, a search of Carigan revealed a plastic bag of pills on her person. Among the drugs discovered were 39 clonazepam pills, 4 gabapentin pills and 2 oxycodone hydrocloride pills.

Carigan was charged with DUI, drugs, first offense, posession of marijuana, first offense, posession of prescription drugs and driving in possession of controlled subtances. She also recieved a summons to appear at the RI Traffic Tribunal Oct. 6 for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

At about 10:45 p.m., police responded to the area of 139 Hamlet Ave. for a motor vehicle accident. When they arrived at the scene, a tow truck driver pointed out liquid leaking from the driver's side of a 2002 gray Nissan Maxima. An officer determined the liquid was alcohol.

The driver, Kelly Lyn McKenna, 38, of 536 Bernon St., Apt. 2, Woonsocket, failed field sobriety tests. During the tests, she asked to take off her shoes, and was allowed to do so. When she did, a bag containing marijuana fell out. She declined to take a chemical test.

McKenna was arrested and charged with DUI, first offense, posession of marijuana, first offense and driving in posession of a controlled substance. She was also issued a summons to appear at the RI Traffic Tribunal in Cranston Oct. 6 for operating without evidence of insurance and laned roadway violations.
