Police Arrest Man for Assaulting Roommate

When Woonsocket Police responded to 126 Earle St. Apt. 2L, Sept. 23 for a report of an assault, the first two people they spoke to denied anything was amiss.

Brian Moore, 57,  who lived there, and a woman, told police they hadn't called, and nothing was wrong. When a second woman entered the room, Moore identified her as the caller, saying that she was high, according to Officer Patrick McGourty's report. But the woman told them another man, William Fox, 48, Moore's roommate, was injured, and led McGourty and Officer David Wahl through the kitchen, which McGourty noted had blood smeared on the floor, to Fox's room.

Fox, in his room, was holding a towel to his left eye, which was swollen, sporting a large bump and had an inch-long cut above it that was bleeding heavily, according to McGourty's report. Fox said Moore had accused him of leaving the apartment door open, allowing Moore's pitbull to escape, and had struck him with a blunt object he didn't see. McGourty was unable to locate anything in the apartment that might have been used to strike Fox.

McGourty arrested Moore for assaulting Fox, but as he placed handcuffs on the man, he began to struggle, requiring McGourty to push him against a wall to retrain him.

The officers took Moore to the Woonsocket Police station at 242 Clinton St., where McGourty noticed he had a swollen hand and a scratch over his left ear that was bleeding. The officers took him to Landmark Medical Center as a precaution before returning him to the station. The officer charged Moore with felony domestic assault, and resisting arrest.

Fox was transported to Landmark Medical Center for treatment.
